Das vorliegende Buch befasst sich mit Genderkonstruktion v.a. in Hollywood-Filmen und deren Romanvorlagen als Beispiel dafür, wie Wahrnehmung durch gesellschaftliche Diskurse gesteuert und manipuliert werden kann, sowie der Entwicklung einer kulturellen Praxis zur Ermöglichung eines Ausbruchs aus dem hegemonialen Diskurs. Filmsemiotische Analysen von Tommy (Russell 1975) und Fight Club (Fincher 1999) illustrieren den angestrebten Paradigmenwechsel im Kino der Jahrtausendwende, an dem die post-68er Generation noch scheiterte, und die sich dadurch eröffnende Möglichkeit für ein breiteres Spektrum von Genderpositionen.
